Recorded in six weeks at Rumbo Recorders amid heroin haze and label battles, original Robert Williams shark artwork gave way to the cross-and-skulls icon after controversy. Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan's rhythm grit anchored the chaos.
Debuting low but exploding via MTV, it dethroned hair metal while birthing the most dangerous band in rock history.
